Roulette
Roulette is a very popular casino game that has French origins, its name comes from the French word "ruote", which in turn comes from the Latin "rota". The game is played on a wheel divided into 37 or 38 sectors (depending on the variant) with numbers ranging from 0 to 36. In the European version of roulette, the wheel has 37 sectors, while in the American version it has 38, due to the presence of a double zero (00) in addition to the single zero (0).
Variants:
European Roulette
American Roulette
38 numbers (0-36 and 00), with a double zero. It has a higher house edge, about 5.26%.
37 numbers (0-36), single zero. It has the lowest house edge, about 2.7%.
French Roulette
similar to European roulette, but with special rules like "La Partage" or "En Prison" that further reduce the house edge on outside bets.
Basic rules:
Betting: Players can bet on a variety of possible outcomes. Bets can be made on single numbers, combinations of numbers, colors (red or black), ties (odd or even), and other options. Bets fall into two main categories:
Inside bets: Bets on specific numbers or groups of numbers, such as betting on a single number or a pair of numbers.
Outside bets: Bets on larger groups, such as colors (red or black), ties (odd or even), or tens (1-12, 13-24, 25-36).
The Wheel: The roulette wheel is made up of 37 (in the European version) or 38 (in the American version) numbered compartments. Each number is associated with a color (red or black) except zero (0), which is green.
The Dealer and the Ball: A dealer throws a ball onto the spinning wheel, and the ball lands on one of the numbered compartments. The number and color the ball lands on determines the outcome of the game.
Types of bets:
Inside bets:
Straight-up: A bet on a single number.
Split: A bet on two adjacent numbers.
Street: A bet on three consecutive numbers in a row.
Corner: A bet on a block of four numbers.
Six Line: A bet on two consecutive rows, covering six numbers.
Outside bets:
Color: A bet on the color (red or black).
Odd/Even: A bet on whether the number drawn will be odd or even.
Dozen: A bet on one of three groups of 12 numbers.
Columns: A bet on one of three columns of 12 numbers.
Odds and Payout:
Each bet has a different probability of winning, with inside bets offering higher payouts but a lower probability of winning.
For example, a bet on a single number pays 35:1, while a bet on a color pays 1:1.
The presence of the zero (and double zero in the American version) creates an edge for the casino, which is the house advantage.
This edge is higher in the American version than in the European version.
